DRUGS & ALCOHOL - Walk
In and Referral Service Research suggests that young people are more likely to attend and benefit from a service aimed specifically at their age group, offering a generic service within which a drugs and alcohol advice and treatment can be anonymously accessed. The service is aimed at different operating levels, offering three tiers of service. In partnership with Addaction Brent we have received funding to employ a Young Persons Drugs & Alcohol Worker. The Young Persons Drugs & Alcohol Worker at the Brent Centre for Young People and Addaction Brent and provides information, advice, assessment, support and focused counselling to young people at risk. The Drugs & Alcohol Worker maintains strong links in the community and provides outreach work and satellite spaces. A more specialised service, offering a Tier 3 service for young people who suffer from drugs and/or alcohol addiction is provided in partnership with Turning Point's Junction Project. A specialist Medical Practitioner and a Drugs & Alcohol Worker provide this service. It includes information, advice and specialised counselling. The medical practitioner will provide prescribing and other interventions and referrals for residential treatment. Key aims:
The Young Persons Drugs & Alcohol Workers co-ordinate through outreach
work the provision of appropriate advice, support, information and referral
to either service or to other local resources, for treatment. The focus
is on early intervention, which can prevent these young people from developing
more serious emotional and social problems and engaging in criminal activity
to pay for their drugs. |
