CAREERS AND EDUCATION SERVICE - Walk In Service

This service would be run in conjunction with LifeTime Careers, an established local provider of career planning services to young people. Lifetime Careers is contracted to the Department of Education and Employment to provide a basic statutory Careers Service in Brent and Harrow.

The service will be equipped with a Careers Information library, computers, a printer and relevant software. The service will be introduced in four phases. Initially we would have a range of subject literature available to young people and would have a referral process and interviews with Lifetime Careers, which would take place in the Centre on an ad-hoc basis. As of Month 5, a weekly interview session with Lifetime Careers would be regularly available at the Centre. As of month 9, following a service evaluation, a second weekly session will be considered for specific appointments and walk-in enquiries. The service would include:

  • information about education routes, occupations and training;
  • individual assessment of capabilities, interests and preferences;
  • impartial guidance in preparing individual career plans;
  • self-marketing training, including CV preparation and interview practice;
  • support of young people making course and job applications

The service would aim to provide activities specifically designed to contact and support young people who are lacking in confidence, de-motivated, disengaged, disaffected or in some way vulnerable or at risk. Career Guidance would help young people to build awareness, confidence, motivation, purpose, capability, and achievement.
